Pegasus Lake

Pegasus Lake with views out to Mt Grey, Canterbury | Rustic Beam Trusses | Sawn Recycled Staircase | Sawn Entrance Door

Pegasus Lake

North Canterbury

Gold Award 2018 House of the year

Products Used:

  • Raw Rustic Beams for exposed structural trusses
  • Re-sawn hardwood used for floating stair treads. Rough Sawn & then Hand Brushed, clear coat oil.

A fusion of rustic and modern industrial. This architecturally designed two-storey 380sqm horseshoe-shaped family home. The entrance foyer is a great example of the marriage of modern industrial-meets rustic charm, with polished concrete, weathered wrought iron and raw timber slabs. To match the rust-look steel front door, the floating staircase’s steel pipes were left outside in the elements for almost a month. This home, beautifully finished with that rustic industrial meld, is a striking balance between rural tranquility and modern simplicity, for family life and fun with friends – which is exactly what the owners hoped to achieve.

With sustainability in mind, the home is crafted using an extensive mix of natural products. Repurposed hardwood timbers have been used for exposed structural members, stair treads, bathroom vanities and more. Local artefacts, such as irrigation pipes, farming implements and mooring chains used in handles, lighting and bathroom fixtures, add yet another layer of charm to this hand-crafted home that has successfully blended traditional, contemporary and sustainable style.
